• What is Odyssey of the Mind?

The 2010 Odyssey of the Mind World Finals was an absolute blast! The parents had fun, the kids had more fun and the Coaches had a ball keeping track of it all! But the biggest story is that New Jersey took home two second place trophies (losing out to Poland and China), and a heaping helping of top-10 teams! Congratulations to everyone who competed!

Just a quick reminder - World Finals Prep Day is this Saturday from 9 am to Noon at Sampson G Smith School in Franklin Twp, NJ. This time is when teams (or a team representative) can pick up their t-shirt and pins orders and help prepare the New Jersey state banner for Opening Ceremonies at World Finals!

Please note: The Lighthouse Schedule has been updated today at 11:00am ET

Officials Training is taking place this Saturday, January 30th at Fisher Middle School in Ewing, NJ. Please note:

• Registration begins at 8:15 am. A light breakfast will be available.
• Training will begin promptly at 8:45 am for both experienced and novice officials for both Liberty and Lighthouse regions. Please plan to arrive between 8:15 and 8:45.
• Training is expected to run until approximately 1:00 pm. Please be prepared to stay for the entire training.
• We recommend you bring a pen and some paper to take notes.
• Officials should have received their assignments already. If you have not, please contact the appropriate officials coordinator.

The weather forecast for this weekend is calling for the possiblity of snow (right now small chance of snow showers). If we are forced to postpone due to incliment weather, an email will go out to officials Saturday morning and a notice will be posted here on the NJ OotM website. Please note that the snow-date is next Saturday, Feb 6th, same time, same place.

For everyone gearing up for March 7's Liberty Region tournament at JP Stevens High School in Edison --- THIS JUST IN! --- The 2009 Liberty Tournament schedule has been posted! Omers of NJ,

The 2008-2009 New Jersey Odyssey of the Mind competition year has begun! And with it - a flood of information. The dates and locations for our tournaments and trainings are set. Please look to the list of important dates on the right hand side of your screen for when and where.

Coaches Training is coming upon us quickly. All coaches are required to attend a day of training so they can be brought up to speed on this year's problems are qualified to ask questions about scoring at the tournaments. Registration is now available for the two coaches trainings. Please register by October 22nd for the October training and November 13th for the November training.

Welcome to another thrilling year for New Jersey Odyssey of the Mind!

We have some new faces on the board this year, so please join me in a hearty NJ OotM "Hello and welcome!" to Trish Hatton (former Woodstown Omer and Coach) and Sarah Pankiewicz (former Omer from Ewing) as our new Officials Coordinators. Please welcome Tim Tower (from Manalapan) as our new Marketing and Recruitment Director. Sharon Burrell (from Sampson G Smith) and Marlene Hingstman (former Ewing Coach) are taking over Merchandising from Sue Cavanaugh as Sue takes a much-needed break (thank you, Sue!). Finally, please welcome Kim Sherwood (former Sayerville Omer) as the Classics Assistant Problem Captain and Nick Pankiewicz (former Ewing Omer) as the State Finals Coordinator and Assistant Tournament Director.

Congrats to all the teams who made it to worlds and gave New Jersey one of our best showings in years! We look forward to seeing the competition heat up as the 2009 competition year begins!

The final arrangements for the World Prep Day have been confirmed! It will be held in Hazlet at the Middle Road School (305 Middle Rd, Hazlet, NJ). The teams who are going to help design the Creativity Booth activity and the our Banner are welcomed to attend. You do not have to bring all of the team members, just those who might want to participate. Your pin and T-shirt order will be there. If you will not be there, contact to make arrangements to receive your orders.

The NJ State Finals were held yesterday, Saturday, April 12th in Woodstown, NJ! Thanks to everyone who made this an excellent tournament! Most of all - congratulations to our winners! See you in Maryland!

Coaches, there are a few pieces of business that we need to conduct to make sure your teams are on the schedule and ready to go for the State Finals Tournament at Woodstown. Please visit the State Finals page to find out what to do!

Important Note: If you received a trophy and/or ribbon at one of the regional tournaments, you are automatically being advanced to State Finals. There is no need to re-register your team, we will take your information from the regional tournament databases.

With the new school year upon us, coaches training for both the Liberty and Lighthouse regions is coming up! The dates for training this year are October 20th at Woodstown High School & Middle School and November 17th at Crossroads Middle School. Coaches can attend either one, but they are required to attend at least one. Registration is required and online registration will be available soon. For more information, please click here.

We're looking forward to another fun and exciting year of Odyssey of the Mind! To support this, we've worked hard over the summer to update our site to be more accessible and easier to read. Pull up a chair, poke around and look for all the new information you want to see.

In other news, our tournament dates have been confirmed for this year. The Liberty Regional Tournament will be taking place on March 8, 2008 at Piscataway High School in Piscataway, NJ. The Lighthouse Regional Tournament will be taking place on March 15, 2008 at Ewing High School in Ewing, NJ. The State Finals will be on April 12, 2008 and will be at Woodstown High School in Woodstown, NJ. Good luck to all teams this year!
